Occlusion is the relationship of the teeth, jaw, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) which is the joint on each side of your head in front of your ears, where your lower jawbone meets your skull. This joint allows you to perform many basic functions including talking, chewing, and yawning. Dr. Westendorf seeks to help his patients achieve a comfortable and correct biting relationship while avoiding movement and excessive wear on the teeth due to improper stresses and joint alignment. The prime purpose of occlusal therapy is to achieve peaceful muscle and nerve harmony in the jaw. We believe you should keep your teeth a lifetime and the proper biting relationships help to accomplish that goal.
